Press Release Appointment to Women's Commission The Government today (December 28) announced the appointment of one new member and the re-appointment of three incumbent members to the Women's Commission. All appointments will take effect from January 15, 2008. The three members re-appointed are Ms Ruth Gee, Ms Joanna Lau Lai-hing, and Dr Yeung Ka-ching. Ms Lau and Dr Yeung have served on the commission since January, 2005, while Ms Gee has served since 2006. They have made an enormous contribution to the work of the commission during their tenure. The new member is Dr Ronnie Hui Ka-wah. Dr Hui is a pediatrician by profession and is also a chartered financial analyst. He was a Member of the Commission on Strategic Development between November, 2005, and June, 2007. He is now a member of the Energy Advisory Committee. His professional background and experience in community service would be a great asset to the commission. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointment of the new member and the re-appointments of the three members. He said the Labour and Welfare Bureau would continue to provide its full support to the commission in promoting the well-being and interests of women in Hong Kong. The Women's Commission was set up on January 15, 2001, as a high-level central mechanism which takes a strategic overview of women's issues. It plays a strategic role in advising the Government on policies and initiatives which are of concern to women. The current term of appointment of members will last until March 31, 2009.
